Question:
So I would need to go to college for 4 years in some kind of science to be able to work with the whales and dolphins at Sea World?
Katie
Answer: Yes. You will need a strong background in zoology in order to work closely with animals. You can get a degree in a field such as zoology, biology, chemistry, botany, or psychology.
Remember also that competition in this job market is keen. Thus it is also advisable to get experience with animals by working as a volunteer in a zoological park, vet, animal rehabilitation center, or other such place.
Just "loving animals" is not enough; the people who hire also want to know if you are a hard-working and knowledgeable person. That is why getting an entry-level job at Seaworld in a gift shop or such can also be helpful: you get to show the people there that you can work hard, that you can be trusted, etc.
Seaworld has lots of info available about careers at Seaworld. See Guide to Zoological Park Careers and Career Resources.
